Our origins date back to the founding of Schweppes, a mineral water business, by Jacob Schweppes in 1783, and the opening of a shop which sold cocoa products, by John Cadbury in 1824. The two businesses were merged in 1969 to create Cadbury Schweppes plc.
The company grew through many stages of development in nearly 40 years as a confectionery and beverages business. In 2007, the Board took the decision that the confectionery and beverages businesses had the appropriate platforms to benefit from being stand-alone businesses, and that they would prosper as independent and separately listed companies.
In May 2008, Cadbury Schweppes plc demerged Americas Beverages, now a listed company on the NYSE under the name Dr Pepper Snapple Group, Inc., from the confectionery business which became Cadbury plc.
In December 2008, the company announced a conditional agreement to sell Schweppes Australia, its last remaining beverages business. The sale was completed in April 2009.
